It is interesting that VSUN has put in an expression of interest for the SAP programme.
VSUN is a subsidiary of Australian Vanadium Limited (AVL) and have trialled a small vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) at Bunbury.
As we know, CCE signed an MOU with Sumitomo Electric and TNG Ltd to use VRFB technology in microgrid projects and also to act as an agent for the sale of their batteries.
My understanding of the SAP trial, is that it will cover many different situations leaving it open to a variety of technologies.
I am wondering if CCE and VSUN might collaborate on at least one of the projects.
CCE/EMC has the experience, VSUN has the VRFB, together they might be able to get something good happening.
Of course, CCE/EMCs experience with Li ion batteries would make it the likely choice for most of the projects they might bid for.
Alternatively, CCE/EMC may just want to do VRFB system on their own using Sumitomo's product.
Being such a big programme, there appears to be plenty of scope to trial many options.
