If, you have a SMSF with a trading account, you are a trustee and your SMSF trust deed provides for investment in the capital markets (which most do) then you can make that decision as a custodian / trustee.
The only qualification would be to examine the T&C of the SPP document (item 6) re any conditions around participating as a custodian / trustee.
Generally, if you have an industry super fund then you own units (made up of lots of different shares) in that fund and not the share or shares per se.
I am certainly no expert and this is just my view which may be completely incorrect.
