I reached out to Gil Don and asked him directly about the issue of patents. Whilst I won't publish his response here as I am not the author of the correspondence, I am confident with his response. To answer the question, they do have strong patents. He also spoke to the fact that the addressable market is in the trillions and there is enough room for good technology and good business method with or without patents. In fact the four competitors to Afterpay in the US do not have patents.
It's a bumpy ride, not for the feint hearted this one, but I am excited about the future of this company. And it's ok if you're not, I'm just not so sure about why you're all wound up about a stock you don't hold.
