Clearwire Launches WiMAX Service in Portland, Oregon

The new WiMAX service will cost $20 a month for home internet service, $20 for mobile internet, with day passes available for $10. Clearwire said the service will provide up to 6 Mb/sec download speeds for residential service, and 4 Mb/sec for mobile internet access.

Motorola is providing stand alone WiMAX modems for both mobile and residential use. Leading PC OEMs including Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, Lenovo, Panasonic, Samsung and Toshiba have announced plans to deliver Intel® Centrino® 2 processor technology-powered notebook computers with embedded WiMAX technology that will be compatible with the Clear network in the first half of this year.
