I can't see anything on the shortman website which would suggest that "shorts as % of volume" is the number of trades.
I think it is the true volume.
Which is more useful, even if it doesn't show any closing out.
40% looks very significant to me.
It is true that the 1.5% cumulative position is very small, but I think that 40% of daily volume is more than enough to move the price that day.
I can't see anything on the shortman website which would suggest...
