Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, said it should have been built 'long ago':
'The bottom line is that there is a cost, a price to be paid by families and businesses and in jobs in terms of excessively expensive energy if you don't develop your energy resources.  The Narrabri project is one that should go ahead. It should have gone ahead long ago. The same is true with opportunities in Victoria'.

So STO has invested over a $1B in it and state govt at time gave it the go ahead. So if it cannot be developed, then NSW should pay STO compensation of at least $1B plus interest. Hopefully STO would repay debt with that and make them even stronger. I live in NSW and NSW should make good on its promises or raise revenue and buy its way out.

My preference in for NSW to pay up and permanently remove Narrabri from development (stops anyone else from bringing this source of supply to compete with COE).

But when PM does a deal with exporters (e.g. STO) to force domestic supply then those companies are going to want something in return. Wasn't that long after that Narrabri was suddenly a core project for STO again.
