The afternoon failure set off a wholesale price rollercoaster, with electricity spot prices spiking from $86.72 a megawatt-hour at 3:30 pm to $1960.54 a megawatt-hour at 4 pm, rising to $5682 per megawatt-hour at 4:30 pm, then hitting $12,931 a megawatt-hour at 5 pm, before sliding back to $5078.6 a megawatt hour by 6 pm. Prices eventually fell to $238.45 a megawatt hour by 6:30 pm.
