The Germans used to do that during the dotcom days.
Not sure if the shorted it though afterwards.
I remember back then the ASX listed Adelong where the director pumped his story in Germany (which was basically lies) and created a storm over in Germany then sold and made quick millions of dollars.
He got sentensed to one years jail last year.
