Claiming to be "changing the broadband game with Instant Connect and 4G back-up", Telstra actually did it first on Valentine's Day this year, but Vodafone's solution is now available in five cities, at last.
After teasing us on 1 August this year, giving a sneak peek of its NBN wireless broadband router with 4G backup, allowing instant connection to Vodafone via 4G speed limited to 12Mbps down and 1Mbps until your wired connection goes online, the Vodafone NBN service has finally arrived – in five cities to start with.
Although Vodafone has billed it as "changing the broadband game" due to the instant connect feature, and the automatic fallback to 4G if the NBN provided connectivity sold by Vodafone goes down, Telstra actually announced a very similar sounding service back on 14 February or Valentine's Day, as iTWire covered in an article entitled: "Telstra unites 4G and broadband in one modem", albeit then at least at speeds of 6Mbps up and 1Mbps down.
Even so, Vodafone's move is still important as it brings Vodafone into the sale of NBN services, and being able to order it online, over the phone or in 78 stores across Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Geelong and Newcastle from 4 December.​
