yes more damage can be done with an elbow than a fist
BUT
both incidents had the potential to do as much damage or more than the other.
If Solomans elbow had connected a bit lower Ling may have just suffered a very saw jaw for a few days
If Halls punch had landed a bit higher Staker could have just as easily have suffered a fractured cheek bone instead of a saw jaw
I would rather take a king hit or elbow to the back of the jaw area than the cheek bone any day.
Both had the potential if the blow had been landed wrong or the player had gone down the wrong way to cause more serious injury
The only SLIGHTLY mitigating fact that Soloman has is that unlike Hall the incident did occur albeit late on a player with the ball and could be weekly argued it was a hip and shoulder gone wrong not behind play as was the case with Hall.
Both players got what they deserved, though I do not think discounts should be applied as was with the case of Hall for such a serious incident.
Both should have got at least 8 weeks
