Of course the argument against solar will be as always that the nuclear or coal fired power generator can provide power 24hrs a day, even in the dark.
So to provide say 10 MWhours for 24 hours daily, you build 10 MW clasic or nuclear power station. With solar you need 20MW to 25MW system that stores some energy generated in day time for release at night.
The above example is very simplistic, I understand power demands vary during the day and night.
Certainly solar/wind systems to supplement and boost classic power generating stations for peak demand during daylight hours is no brainer.
