Below is an opinion that I posted on the SOL thread re the Carnegie/Perpetual push to split the duopoly (if there's anybody out there?)
"molly: it seems sol and bkw are too large to be of interest on hotcopper (except for us two?) ... and your question is obviously answered by the numerous announcements issued after posting.
My take on the topic, as an owner of bkw stock, is that either sol or bkw are good buys for three reasons at least:
1) the crossholdings do deliver dividend stability (so the
status quo ain't a disaster)
2) bkw should have a good few years given the inevitable
improvement due in new home construction
3) the carnegie/perpetual 'push' can either succeed (delivering substantial benefits to all involved imo) or, if it fails, should at galvanise the Millners into reworking the existing arrangement and improving shareholder returns.
Given the share prices of both stocks Mr Market doesn't agree with my prognosis but, what the hell ... I'm a contrarian ... and prepared to back my research."
