I take your point buysurge, and admire your approach and confidence in BAL. I didn't buy in for a short-term gain – my general rule is to follow Buffett's advice and buy the stocks that, if the market closed for 10 years, you'd still be happy holding. That, and the fact that I'd rather pay 25% capital gains tax than 50% for selling within a year. 

I agree with you that a company shouldn't make announcements when there is really nothing to tell. That would indeed be hype. My problem with BAL is the absence of communications when there is news to tell. I would think that the events mentioned on this page warrant an announcement and would go some way to check the rising waters of gloom that helps shorters. I don't think small news would make much difference now, but it might have in the past.
