That's the thing that folks like you constantly miss. Contrary to the romantic ideal, progress - particularly in medicine - does not typically come from applying the "wisdom of the ancients". It comes from the hard, painstaking work of thousands of scientists, teasing out the fantastically tangled ball of spaghetti that is human biology - the result of hundreds of millions of generations of "whatever random glitch leads to a slight improvement gets to go forward." The idea that you can simply slap on some random assortment of crap and expect a cure is fantastically naïve.
