silver eagle demand soars – u.s. mint sold out, page-3

Hi,
One of the "reasons" given for why the US Mint has run out of silver eagles is "a shortage of 1 oz round silver blanks". I don't see how the US mint, which has all the sophisticated equipment required to mint coins, not having the capability to make its own blanks. The old shortage of blanks routine is IMHO a misleading way of saying "We've run out of silver".
