JID, this chart is misleading, without the explanation that the blue line represents the percentage shorted relative to volume, rather than the more commonly quoted "short sales as a % of mkt cap"
Hence the chart reflects the trail off in volume rather than a large build in short positions.
Currently the"ASX short sales as a % of mkt cap" figure stands at about 0.05% or approx 177K gross short positions of 363 million TFC shares as at 3/2/16
