Hi Richi, in really simple terms, if you hold a short position on a stock, you make money if it goes down, and you lose money if it goes up. So if the stock goes up and catches enough folks with their pants down, they have to rush in and buy the stock to close/cover their position. That can have a snowball effect as demand surges.
There's a lot more to it than that.
