First of all would like to commend Freehold and others on this forum for the respect and orderliness of how it all runs, compared to the XJO forum.

Trump and President Xi need to put the supersonic ego of the former to rest, and the latter has the cultural weight of expectations of 1.4 billion peoples who see losing face as the thing to be avoided at all costs.

They said that WW1 could not happen as everyone had too much to lose but it was the most brutal war ever. Probably the Tariff wars will not be that bad, as both powers are so economically interdependent. But it could come down to competing wills of two powerful individuals who personally have nothing to lose. Will their own lifestyle change if it turns out completely rotten? Of course not! And that is scary.
