Futures can easily go off on a tangent when the corresponding cash market is closed. I usually check the XJO futures about half hour before the open then again a couple of minutes before ten. Futures price can have done a huge flip on occasion in that half hour. I sometimes trade index BetaShares ETFs which have an opening price based on the futures market a minute before the open. If the XJO then starts to trade at a very different level than the futures, the ETF price changes accordingly. If geared (GEAR) then it could be quite big.
re China, there is no doubt it's GDP growth is slowing down, but their fake news is often what our media gets. So getting the true picture is much more difficult.
