I wake up and see this has devolved into a fight over sugar? I have to agree with @UmiTrader. The human body has not changed much in the last couple centuries, but our access to carbs - without an energy consuming struggle to acquire them - has increased greatly. We don't need to work at all to get our sugar fix. Sugar may not cause diabetes, but insulin resistance is brought in from higher than average visceral fat levels - beer gut. Fatty infiltration of the liver is on the rise, and that is due to excess energy being stored there. Basically you can run yourself skinny or you can eat like we did before we had cars to drive us to the deli. It ain't easy. One thing I would add is that it seems like there are varying body types. I know folks who are highly resistant to the negative effects of sugar and others who can lose weight just by cutting anything refined, including 'natural' sugar from fruit juice etc. @Ekult, some people's health improves dramatically if they avoid all sugar including fruit and alcohol. They feel better physically and mentally and they lose their stomach fat rapidly. So that's why they are so adamant about it. Ifit works for you...why not.
