Trump might be the President for another 2 years...and then he will be gone. The legacy he will leave for us here in Australia is a militarized South Pacific... something we can't do anything about and we will have to live with it for perhaps generations.
If Trump wanted to bring manufacturing back to the US another approach he might have tried was to welcome direct Chinese investment in the US, get them to build the plants in the US to supply the US demand.
China is an authoritarian state. It is dangerous to allow it to stay that way. Much better to try to incentivize them to be a more open society.
