I have been doing exactly that this weekend, a comparo of the Australian index with S&P 500 over the łast. 20 years. The differences are dramatic, and reinforces my idea some time ago to invest a fair portion into the Nasdaq and S&P 500. Re the XJO, the all time high was 6700 in October 2007, and not a lot happened until March 2015, when we hit a multi year high of 5975. Then we exceeded 6000 for the first time for many years in August this year, with a closing high of 6373, still about 5.4% short of the 2007 high. If you do the same for the US indices, it is clear that their markets have been mostly in top gear while the ASX has been still in first, for over 11 years.
