Good question zest thats for sure ! One for the deep value investors or the broker data people perhaps . I would have pretty much same assumption and do till i get towards the legal stuff of it all then it becomes clouded .
Best i can help with is investopedia and what a nominee is . It certainly by looks is a proprietary listed company held by limited shares of a main identity company imo
That would be the commonwealth bank ? Not comsec itself unless of course if they have more than one nominee company which i don't know?
But assume yes as they also have overseas investment banks etc etc
If the bank buys shares and investments itself it would need a vehicle to do it under and still be able be disclosed to the market .
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/n/nominee.asp
The wording with the nominee could be a clue to what holding s they were as if maybe a trustee holding perhaps then would be held by the bank itself under trust arrangements ?
I cant run a sweep yet properly without knowing the rules first !
So hoping someone can answer this question also thats for sure as sometimes i do look at that sort of stuff . If the nominees account was a trust it would be in units not shares of a registered abn company proprietary listed or maybe acn ?
The difference to obligations ?
Sometimes you have trust units traded in the market like when centro and centro trust what ever their names were back then ones holding were in units the other as shares .
Different obligations to maybe the trust document and a companies constitution ?
If im confusing yes it all is its just a reply may help or even promote a reply to it .
Im still in a bnb subordinated noteholders dispute from the gfc . Almost long forgotten thats for sure .Well the trust is i guess on behalf of the holders of the notes spread across two countries .
In an investment bank vehicle that went bust through being very complicated i guess .
So with all that waffle im going put myself out thier and say yes retail holding would be in the nominees vehicle and that one would be the one held by the bank on behalf of comsec . The fact its plural nominees could suggest it could even have holding of the bank itself in them if they buy stocks through commsec ?
Now you know why perhaps some just look at a chart and try their hardest not think about fundamentals which is very hard to do without having some knowledge the risk of fundamentals is so huge !
