@webbj a few more potential catalysts for you ?
In the last 8 days, Bunker Bay Beach (as well as multiple surrounding) in WA has been closed at least twice due to shark sightings !
From what I can tell, SP3 has Shark Warning Systems not too far away at Gracetown and Margaret River
Some of the updates from Surf Life Saving WA regarding the sightings and closure of the beaches are below. I note they also had multiple shark sightings at neighbouring beaches and closed them also, such as Meelup Beach
IMO putting one of these Shark Warning Systems of every patrolled and surfed beach in WA and linking up with Surf Life Saving WA feed is a no brainer !
Check this out ... Even after multiple shark attacks earlier in recent weeks, and sightings of 2 great whites and reporting via SLS Twitter feed, locals still had to mock up hand made signs to warn surfers of the imminent threat of sharks

I think this could get some real headwind leading into peak summer season
They already have trials in 2 of the most prominent regions. I'm sure the council are considering a wider roll out after this recent spate of sightings / encounters
