I know this article is from the CNBC ha but it still makes a pretty valid point and why I believe it doesn't matter whether people 'think' that everyone is being too pessimistic on the market so it can't go down.

Once these machines/algos see the downward momentum they will just follow it, they're are emotionless to feelings like pessimism and optimism.
The same could be true if you think the stock market is going to go higher.
Although in the end, I don't believe the underlying economic fundamentals will allow this to happen, apart from the short-term news drive or bounce spikes..
