Rather than brokerage fee, a flat sales tax of a few dollars that goes directly to the govt on every sales transaction, be it 1 share or a million. A sales tax would make the algorithmic trading unprofitable and simultaneously fix our 'budget crisis'. The problem with a brokerage fee is the left hand is only paying the right hand - the broker is only paying himself.
