Hi Tim,
I’ve revisited the Argos website and included the following screenshots.
I’m sorta plucking bits and pieces to have a go at an explanation so bear with me..
From yesterday’s charts the accumulation index came in around a threefold increase, from looking at the dark blue line on the first of today’s charts (a fairer comparison?, yesterday i compared to the fourfold grey line) this shows Argos sp also a threefold increase.
The difference over 10 yrs being 1.2 as shown on the second chart. This just confirms the closeness over long periods, the third screenshot mentions subtle differences how the figures are arrived at, important?
For my money, points to note are ,
in fact they are very similar, a slight advantage to the accumulation index for sp increase.
Argos appears to pay/give franking credits every year, (enough to change a threefold increase to a fourfold increase).
Unfortunately we don’t know how much we would get from our accumulation index, at a guess not as much as Argos (i must highlight its just a guess, feel free to correctme),slight advantage to Argos?
Assuming an etf is representative of the accumulation index, then etf vs lic?
Mmmm still very tough for me, if you like franking credits perhaps Argos gets the nod?
I noted your comment on Argos being better during hard times perhaps this is as important as anything else?
My main takeaways are
- the power of compounding interest (a paltry 6% becomes a threefold increase)
-entry points are important even if your planning to hold 10yrs plus( eg the best entry points gave approx a threefold increase a poor entry point twofold or less, a substantial difference )
Noting my own points I’ll be a lot more discerning in the future when considering this type of investment.
I paid a premium(to nta) for Argos but I’ll not be so keen in the future (haha they’re currently a 20cent discount damn!)
Thanks
Regards luk26
