Hi huddo
Sorry I’ve just a few more thoughts and I’m sure you’ve been given enough information to keep you busy for days!!
So if assuming a 20yr period, (from the previous posts) Argos type investments increase approx 6fold and average income approx 4fold(source abs). Also assuming you would be happy with a 50k p.a. income (at today’s rate) then this would equate to 200k in 20yrs.
Assuming rates of return of 8% (I’ve no basis for this, just something i read years ago) then in 20yrs time you’ll need a nest egg of 2.5million! Working backwards this equates to 416k today!
One last comment for you to consider, over the long term you’ve indicated, all superannuation companies recommend the “growth” not a “conservative” option.
Effectively this is means for 4-5yrs of the 20yr period, there will be no or negative growth but much greater return over the other 15-16 years. Expectedly overall a far better return....
One of the WAM portfolio has had a 14fold return over 10yrs, $10k becomes 140k!! Nice....
Thanks to all that have contributed to this discussion!! It has been informative and interesting! Thanks again.
