I was sworn in as a JP - in the 1980's so a long way back. Normally done at the beginning of the day but the paperwork did not arrive so I sat though half a day of cases.
One thing I did notice was that the judge wanted to get rid of all the jobs that would not take much time - essentially completing cases, outlining his decision, adjourning cases to a future date and sentencing etc That way he cold concentrate on the cases that would take longer in the afternoon.
I would have thought that with SIAC that they would take a similar approach and get rid of all the small stuff if they had other cases to deliberate on.
