A couple of comments :
The best of the Colorado deposits (Green River) are expected to yield, via massive amounts of insitu heating, 20 US gallons oil / ton (20 US galls = 16 imperial galls = 73 litres. GRV / ESMCA solvent extraction figures for Lowmead / Nagoorin are appreciably higher @ better than 300 litres / tonne.
These US deposits are 1,000+ feet deep. Open-cutting not on! Hence the reliance on insitu retorting, or insitu solvent extraction. Both methods messy to contain. A trillion barrels of oil, or an environmental disaster? GRV / ESMCA deposits virtually at surface.
Results soon for Alpha Deposit solvent extraction - possibly 500+ litres of "hydrogenated sweet crude" / (dry) tonne of oil shale.
OK, resource not in the trillion barrel range, but some 300+ M bbls oil (Alpha alone) still pretty darn good for a couple of little specs capitalized @ $35M.
