No rest for the shorters I’m afraid, they’re going to have to pay the dividend to those they borrowed the shares from.
By the way, from a back of the envelope calculation, I think LHC must have already burnt all their gains from shorting IFL over a four-year period, due to the impact of paying out dividends.
