Many of us have over the years talked about Derby as if it contains 16tcf , 32tcf of wet gas .

This is by no means certain . There might not be any .

I say this because as far as I know a basin centred gas accumulation has not yet been proven in Derby and if one is it will might take a lot of wells to find it and even more to quantify it .


Then there is the nature of the BCGA . They are not all like Transerve's Perth Basin tight gas sands .

The 1,000m thick Cooper Nappamerri Trough deep gas play is very different from Real Energy's 30m thick Cooper gas play .

The good thing is that the Nappamerri Trough deep play looks to have marginal economics at best so there is still everything to play for .

Until we know it's there and understand it there is not way of telling whether any will be economic .
