I'm usually wrong but...how i read it is like this. Proprietary schemes are no longer appropriate. Yes there is Oyster in London and that is where ERG should probably be..but its not...and the time for such a system is now long past with the developments of Mastercard PayPass and Visa's Wave and even with NFC developments. Oyster has been propped up by Barclay's but really what does it matter to the consumer who developed the technology to pay for the fare or the ice-cream. Any of these payment schemes attached to a debit or credit card will do...and the ones that will be able to be used in Hong Kong or Sydney universally are surely the ones to be successsful.
ERG if it is to survive will have to compromise and allow other payment forms to ride the rails with it. It can do this as did Oyster or it can keep holding the society to ransom and go under.
