This article explains how serious Sears is about connected homes

The Buddy platform has a unique language (algorithm) that can interpret all connected goods and convey them as customised data sets to paying customers.

So while companies like Xped (RYG) benefit from the  ''connected home'' evolution at a consumer level, through selling softwares that make a home user-friendly for its owners (control everything from your iPad type thing), Buddy is purely providing datasets for the manufacturers that create the products. Think Car Manufacturers that want to learn how customers use their cars, White-good/Electronic Manufacturers,  Government organisation e.g. Census Data.

Essentially, the Buddy Platform is a ''real-time market research tool'' that should and will be employed by massive MNCs. I expect Sears to just be a small beginning.
