I honestly couldn't give you an accurate price, as I am not sure what spec the boat would be - ie. will they actually stick to the 2hr crossing goal? Cars? Also, I am not a broker, so would be speaking out of turn.
My guess is that Makris would be seeking second hand re-fitted boats just so he could sell the story, possibly with new engines (old engines would spell disaster from an engineering perspective)
Then again, he could be genuine and go for newies - say $10m ea minimum, plus certification, insurance, crew, admin...
I have been out of the game for a long while, but the most recent boat I worked on was a 50m Feadship launched for USD 65m - this is a luxury boat made to the highest spec capable of 20kts - so then strip away all the fittings, toys and Dutch workmanship.. for something out of perhaps a Korean shipyard with a much more powerful engine and stronger hull/superstructure (I doubt the Chinese are making reliable 40kt engines yet)
To avoid cancellations and becomming the Tiger Airways of the seas he would really need 3 vessels - 2 if he is offering less than 3 crossings per day.
I dunno, it's all looking a bit sketchy if you ask me. He would need to sell heeeeeps of realestate to makle all this worthwhile- this is Glenelg not Bondi.
All I have seen so far from him is bravado. That being said, in my industry I am accustomed to losing margins to crazy new commers that go bust as fast as they arrive.. and then the next crazy comes in and takes their place and so on.. This will always be something SLK has to stay aware of.
Also, if Makris has a massive tax bill, then this would make it all more interesting.
DYOR (FYI I sold out yesterday with the hope of buying back in again after the hype settled down (and US budget woes)- could have been good or bad idea, but am happy locking in any gains in this market)
