As reported in Mining Weekly Online, South African state owned power utility Eskom has issued a request for proposals to supply a number of its power stations. In total there are three separate specifications for 19 million tonnes of coal.

In the same article it is reported that Eskom predicts that a further 15 coal mines will need to be opened by 2015 and that over 100 billion Rand will need to be invested by 2018....
