I was sent a paper from the Scandium Symposium, which was part of the Metals, Minerals and Materials Society Annual Meeting in San Antonio last week, which was about aluminium-cerium-scandium alloys. The company developing them is Eck Industries in Wisconsin. They apparently make most of the cylinder heads for propeller driven aircraft in North America. The new alloy allows operation at much higher temperature, The cerium stops them softening at high temperature and the scandium adds some strength. Cerium is cheap at the moment, about the same price as aluminium.
I am told Clean TeQ and their partners at Deakin University presented about 5 papers at the symposium.
