Latest details of GDX shows it has 27.9m SBM shares - see

while the GDXJ etf has no SBM shares - see

I suppose GDXJ could still buy some SBM shares if it meets its guidelines - the management group running the GDX are not the same as those operating GDXJ and make their decisions independent of each other, at least that is what I read somewhere (do not ask me where).
GDX is now a significant SBM shareholder (ie holds 5%+ of issued shares) so they will need to provide a notice of their shareholding to the ASX - they are yet to do that for all the other ASX-listed companies which they undertook a rebalance last week.
