Hopefully you are young and can make it back.

I doubt you'll get any money back from ETC.

But check out this newsletter with a good and transperent track record: www.stockmarket.co.nz (it's also pretty cheap) and most importantly independent advice. You won't make 100% pa with those guys but will probably beat the market over the long haul. IMO specs like ETC should make up only a fraction of the portfolio, investment grade companies that have no chance of going bust like TRS and WCG should make up the majority.
