THE battle for Warrnambool Cheese and Butter has taken another twist, with the Takeovers Panel ordering Saputo to stop accepting shares in the Western District dairy company.

Murray Goulburn complained to the panel three days ago over the Saputo-WCB agreement, which it contended contravened Section 631(1) of the Corporations Act 2001 and the truth in takeovers policy.

The Takeovers Panel said on Wednesday it made no comment on the merits of the MG application.

But in an interim order today, it barred Saputo from accepting any more WCB shares for two months unless the Panel made further orders or the panel handed down its decision on the MG application.
