A Federal solution of some kind is the only practical way to keep most of Syria's borders intact.

Those parts of Syria now occupied by Turkey (including buffer zones) will in time be annexed by Turkey regardless of the rights or wrongs of it.  Nothing we say or do can prevent that.

The obvious advantage of a Federal solution is that it enables all actual Syrian parties to move forward and save face at the same time.  The Damascus Government's Iranian controlled mouth pieces don't like the idea but "choice" isn't an option.  The only other option is for a perpetually frozen conflict.
