Yes but Merkel is not the working class. The German capitalist class would face the most vehement opposition from the working class, given Germany's history. That's why they are promoting far right and fascist politics again in Germany, but that doesn't have support from a majority of Germans.

Most people don't see things in class terms much anymore, but they exist anyway. Like in Australia, all the parties, liberal, labor, greens, one nation and the unions are all locked into the US alliance and confrontation with China.
But the majority of the population isn't.
