Gloucester Shire Council approves local protest camp
by AGL Community Team17 Sep 2014, 12:17 PM
Gloucester Shire Council today approved a temporary primitive protest camp to be located near AGL's Waukivory Pilot site outside Gloucester.
AGL supports any individual’s or group’s right to peacefully protest and understand that there are some people who will always be opposed to coal seam gas.
There are also locals who support the work we are doing to secure energy supplies for the people of NSW.
We believe the 27 conditions the Council placed on the camp’s approval, including the need for the camp to have security, the timeframe, maximum of 200 people and noise restrictions, strikes a balance between the right to undertake our work, and their right to protest.
AGL will endeavour to work with members of the camp where possible, and will conduct our pilot safely while adhering to government regulations and strict codes of practice.
We will continue to engage with the community and ensure they are regularly updated on the progress of the project.

Fencing and filming around our Gloucester project
by AGL Community Team15 Sep 2014, 04:07 PM
At AGL, we’ve been working hard to connect with the local community at Gloucester since 2009. We also understand not everyone agrees with our project.
Some people have chosen to protest our activities and we respect their right to do so.
The safety of those involved in our project is a major priority. This includes our people, the equipment they use and the community around our project.
We’ve recently received questions and comments about our use of security and fencing around our Waukivory operations.
We’ve decided to fence our sites and film activity around our project.
Here’s why we’re doing it:
We’re trying to balance legitimate protest activity with the real safety and security issues at hand.
- AGL is responsible for the safety of our staff, contractors, and the general public. Our efforts are some of the ways we can maximise everyone’s safety.
- Fencing ensures people are clear about what constitutes private property and what access is unauthorised. This clarity is beneficial for our team, security staff and the community.
- There’s greater accountability on all sides –from AGL staff to the public by creating a record of events.
The filming is obvious – you can see the cameras clearly. Articles like this one and signage at our Gloucester office are among the other ways we are being clear about the approach we’re taking.
