All of these questions have different answers depending on the size of the client As far as ASX is concerned they allow these trades because of "liquidity" in the market They allow it under the guise of price discovery In the past markets have gone tits up on lack of liquidity so it is the driving premise if over time markets go up (markets not individual stocks) Consequently small retail shareholders are right royally stuffed
