    The trouble with that Germany/EU article is four fold.

    1. It is rear facing. Germany chose to subsidise early renewables production. So those numbers reflect those subsidies and early costs. Current and future renewable costs are competitive.

    2. A large part of Germany's problem was the decision to replace nuclear and some part of their costs relate to that.

    3. The space argument is overstated. Renewables certainly require more space than fossil fuels, but much of that can be dual use with farming and other uses. And making suggestions based on 100% wind is a nonsense.

    4. And then there is that headline (EU dumps alarmist target) - which is classic, chronic denial.
    They ran out of time in a meeting to confirm the 2050 climate targets, largely due to additional time required on Brexit, and they deferred discussion on that climate target till their next meeting.
