To start, I would recommend getting a Nano Ledger S, COLD storage wallet, it interfaces with MEW (for most Ethereum based tokens) , Neo, bitcoin etc plus they are adding more wallets all the time. Best investment for looking after your crypto.

Open an account with ALL of the following AUD exchanges (you want options right!)-
Independant reserve
BTC markets
Coinspot

Open accounts with (yes all of them) -
Binance
Kucoin
Bittrex

Bookmark and add to your bookmark bar all the exchanges plus the following:
coinmarket cap/ bitscreener.com
coinschedule.com
icodrops.com
myetherwallet
https://etherscan.io/

once you have an ethereum address via your Nano ledger/ my ether wallet , enter your address to etherscan.io and bookmark your actual address, that way you are able to check your balances without logging in every time
