Knowing the limo industry I am surprised JAY's negative reviews are so low. By my rough calculation JAY is facilitating around 20,000 rides a month. My personal experience with using airport limos booked directly is around 10% flake out or turn up late (NYC is the worst).
JAY is not just booking Lyfts - they are mainly booking airport shuttle and limos which is a very fractured market (have a look at the prospectus for more details). There is a real need for a consolidator in the limo industry, especially one that has the market clout to chase out the cowboys of which there are far too many.
I would be surprised if JAY is booking Lyft drivers at all through Lyft, but given the fluid nature of employment of drivers we should not be surprised if they are driving for multiple companies. If they were booked via Lyft why is the driver refusing to take the passenger to their destination - the driver gets paid the same if the passenger booked via Lyft or Jayride. The whole thing sounds suspicious to me.
The cut JAY is taking is around 25-30% not 50%. I would love if they had the power to take 50%, but they don't.
Yes I suspect that JAY has had issues like all companies that are growing very rapidly. The question is not if they are perfect, but are the problems small enough that it does not affect their growth significantly. So far everything seems to be OK.
