It is all known too-well for those who are in the academia this is a problem that are hard to fix. Those who are getting the funding are constant pressure to get ahead in their academic ladder. It is partly about the pressure to publish or perish and for some it is a bit of an ego-trip and self-gratification that drive this problem. Many good science project and idea are missing out on much need funding while others are just benefiting from their exaggerated claims in science. Those that are the loudest and rudest in science are often the one that win out in the race. Many who know how to play the publication games get their funding years in years out without producing anything that is useful for human diseases. Let hope the government can change things a bit so better and useful science can also benefit from our tax money.
