"Now it is moving into the $1bn project controls market, and Barlow, a former Oracle manager who’s based in Phoenix, Arizona, is travelling around the world to persuade contractors and clients they can’t afford not to rent a system from Aconex – or the six or so other suppliers of rival software solutions."

Great post @bob52 . Here we can see that the Connected Cost solution added $1bn to the TAM for Aconex. So just by adding new solutions, like Cost and Analytics, Aconex can expand its TAM, which is already large.

As well, the overall TAM will keep on expanding organically anyway, as it is based on a percentage of the construction technology spend, which in turn is a percentage of the growing US$10 trillion annual global construction spend.

As Guy Barlow says, he does not regard rival vendors as his main competitor. The real enemy is the Excel spreadsheet. “That’s the industry standard, and our biggest competitor, globally speaking."

Imagine an excel spreadsheet for a US$13.4bn airport project- like the new Mexico City International. Diabolical! No wonder Parson's called in Aconex on that project!
