Anyway I am happy to see the analysts have finally woken up to the potential of the USA operations, long after my November post that they were being ignored in the valuations, and even longer after management been foretelling their significance.

Perhaps eventually they"ll wake up to even longer term potential.

I reckon ASB has a long long way to go, that they"ve only tapped the tip of the potential of technology in which they are the leaders.

Think log rafts, canoes, wooden ships, steel ships, them ALUMIUM SHIPS. Think increasing movement of airfreight, think rising fuel costs, think HIGH SPEED SHIPPING.

Of course the military market is currently the easiest and most lucrative to tackle after fast ferries -and they"ve only begun with that. Beyond that ASB will not be afraid to grasp the next market opportunity, and they"ve shown they have the capabilities, and importantly the ability to manufacture offshore.

This is a stock well worth looking at, but you"ll need to do most of your own research on this one, I wouldn't rely too much on the brokers. As well as the usual, try reading a copy of "Fast Ferry" in the library to get a flavour of ASB's maket position. Ditto googling "Austal". This is a world class growth company, trading on mediocre valuations, for the one distant past sin - attempting the luxury yaucht market.
